Free Text Tools

Free · nothing uploaded · no sign-up

Five tools that share one counting engine, so the numbers always agree with each other. Everything runs in your browser — no upload, no account, no limit on how much you paste. The counters also show live character limits for twelve platforms, which most counters leave out.

Every tool here

Reading time calculatorHow long your text takes to read silently, read aloud, or deliver as a speech
Case converterEleven formats including a Title Case that actually follows the rules
Fireworks text generatorTurns your words into 22 copy-paste styles with sparkles and fancy Unicode

Three things these do that most counters do not

Live platform limits

Every counter tells you how many characters you have typed. Almost none tell you whether it will fit. The counters here show the remaining count for SMS, WhatsApp status, Instagram bio and caption, X, TikTok, Pinterest, YouTube title and description, Google title and description, and Facebook — updating as you type, turning amber as you approach and red when you go over.

The same engine everywhere

Each tool on this site uses one shared counting engine, so the word count on the case converter is the same number as the word count on the reading time calculator. That sounds obvious. Run the same paragraph through three different counter sites and you will often get three different answers, because they disagree on hyphens, line breaks and what counts as a sentence.

Nothing leaves your browser

There is no upload, no account and no server involved. That matters more than it sounds if you are pasting an unpublished manuscript, a client brief or anything under an NDA into a random website.

How the numbers are worked out

FigureMethod
WordsRuns of characters separated by whitespace. Hyphenated words count as one.
CharactersEverything including spaces. A second figure excludes them, which is what per-character pay rates use.
SentencesSplit on full stops, question marks and exclamation marks. Abbreviations can shift this by one or two.
Reading time238 words per minute silent, 183 read aloud, 140 for a speech.
Reading levelFlesch–Kincaid grade level, from sentence length and syllables per word.
Keyword densityOccurrences as a percentage of total words, for one, two and three-word phrases, with common filler words removed.

Common questions

Are these tools free? Yes, all of them, with no account and no limit on how much text you can paste.

Is my text uploaded anywhere? No. Every tool runs entirely in your browser, so nothing is sent to a server or stored.

Why do different websites give different word counts? They disagree on edge cases — hyphenated words, numbers, line breaks and what ends a sentence. Every tool on this site uses one shared engine, so the figures always match each other.

Which tool should I use for a social media caption? The character counter. It shows the remaining count for each platform live, including the ones people forget like the 150-character Instagram bio.

Can I count words in a PDF here? Not yet. For now, open the PDF, select all the text, copy it and paste it into the word counter.
