A caption can run to 2,200 characters, but only about the first 125 show before the more link. Whatever matters has to be in that first line and a half. A bio is capped at 150 characters, which is far tighter than most people expect.
A plain text message holds 160 characters. Add a single emoji or an accented letter and the message switches to Unicode encoding, which cuts the limit to 70 characters per part. That is why a short birthday text with one 🎂 can arrive as two messages.

Not a hard limit but a display one. Google cuts page titles around 60 characters and descriptions around 160. Anything past that still exists, it just never gets read.
